Hempstead, N.Y. — AJ Soldra went 3-for-5 with two RBI to lead a Seton Hall offense that scored 12 runs but the Pirates couldn't outscore Hofstra as the Pride came from behind to defeat The Hall, 13-12, on Tuesday afternoon.

Patrick Benn started on the mound for the Pirates and had two strikeouts in two innings while Tomas Cestero tossed a career-best 4.1 innings.

How It Happened

Benn retired the first four batters he faced, including a one-two-three top of the first inning. With one out in the top of the third, Soldra singled through the right side before stealing second base. Soldra would go on to steal third and it drew an errant throw from the catcher, allowing him to score easily from third base and giving the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.

The Pride would answer with seven runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a commanding lead. Despite The Hall manufacturing two runs in the fourth to cut its deficit to four, Hofstra pushed across another run in the home half that made it an 8-3 ballgame.

The first Pirates reached base in the top of the fifth that led to three runs and with two outs, Marco Ali delivered a two-run single that tied the game up at 8-8. Ali would score the go-ahead run later on in the inning as Soldra singed through the right side to put the Pirates ahead, 9-8.

Cestero provided two shutdown innings for The Hall as he retired five of the next batters he faced. Soldra stayed hot with an RBI single in the top of the seventh inning before Aiden Robbins drove in two runs on a double that extended Seton Hall's lead to 12-8. It wouldn't be enough though as Hofstra scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh and two more runs in the eighth to take a 13-12 lead.
