Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field

A history-rich facility that has been a pillar in the university and local communities since the early 1900s, Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field, home of the Seton Hall baseball program, is one of the finest college baseball facilities in the Northeast.
Recently, the facility underwent a major renovation that began in March 2019 and was completed in March 2020. The improvements drastically enhanced the fan and student-athlete experience. New additions included revamped seating areas with chairback seating, permanent restrooms, an enclosed press box, new Field Turf and new, standardized dugouts that are similar to those seen at the professional level. Aesthetically, the facility has a much greater "stadium" feel as a stone façade encloses all seating areas.
The first game at the newly renovated stadium was on March 11, 2020, a 13-3 victory for the Pirates over Fairleigh Dickinson.
On December 5, 2019, the field was officially renamed Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium at Owen T. Carroll Field; two names that are synonymous with Seton Hall and two of the greatest coaches in the history of college baseball. Sheppard, who passed away on April 7, 2019, served as the University's head coach form 1973-2003, recording 28 winning seasons. Sheppard's squads reached the NCAA Tournament 12 times, and he led Seton Hall to appearances in the College World Series in 1974 and 1975. He was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association's Hall of Fame in 2011. Carroll coached the Pirates from 1948 to 1972, compiling a record of 341-185-6 and leading the Pirates to the College World Series in 1964 and 1971. Carroll was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.
The grounds itself has been used by Seton Hall athletics programs since the early 1900s. The baseball field that became known as Setonia Field was christened in 1906. In 1973, Mike Sheppard, Sr.’s first season as the Pirates’ head coach, Seton Hall decided to dedicate the baseball field in honor of former head coach Owen T. Carroll. The field was officially named Owen T. Carroll Field on April 28, 1973.
In 2007, the days of poor playing surfaces due to the sometimes-unfriendly Northeast weather and playing only when the sun was up ended as Field Turf and lights were installed at the field. Today, the official seated capacity at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium is 261. The dimensions are 315 feet to left field, 395 to center and 328 to right.
