Friars Rally for Two Late, No. 19 Pirates Fall at Home

South Orange, N.J. – The No. 19 Pirates fell to Providence, 3-2 on Saturday night for their first setback of the season. The Friars scored two late goals to take down the Pirates who had not fallen at Owen. T. Carroll Field in 682 days. JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) and Mattias Almeida Sundell (Sweden) tallied for The Hall in the setback.

How it Happened
After a relatively quiet start to the game, the Pirates finally broke through in the 27th minute. Camil Koreichi (Paris, France) made a fine play to stop a Friar in the attacking end before dribbling toward the Providence box. There he found Marin who made a move to get past a Providence defender and curve a left-footed strike past the Friar keeper and in for the opening goal.

With the Pirates leading at the half, Providence would equalize in the second period. Luis Garcia would find a streaking Davis Smith on a cross who would head in the game-tying goal and level things at one.

In the 70^th minute, The Hall would retake the lead, this time off the head of Almeida Sundell. After Raz Amir (Israel) was able to breakdown a few Friars in the box he laid off a pass for Denis Kelmendi (Falkenberg, Sweden) who crossed a ball in to penalty area where Almeida Sundell got his head on the ball to find the back of the net and put the Pirates up, 2-1.

Turning Point
Trailing 2-1 in the 82^nd minute, the Friars were able to rally for two goals just over a minute apart to take the lead and eventually the game, 3-2.

Inside the Numbers

The Friars outshot the Pirates 15-12, but the Pirates held the advantage in corners, 6-5.
Luca Dahn (Kahl, Germany) led the Pirates with six shots while Almeida Sundell had the most shots on target with two.
Hannes Ronnholmen (Stockholm, Sweden) got his first start of the season in net making four saves in the process.
With the setback, the Pirates fall to 4-1-2 on the season and 0-1-0 in BIG EAST play.

News & Notes

12 different Pirates have now found the back of the net this season with 25 assists on 19 total goals.
With his goal tonight, Marin now has two goals on the season and six in his Pirate career.
Playing in just his second game of the year, Almeida Sundell scored his first tally of the season.
With assists tonight, Amir and Kelmendi each picked up their respective fourth helpers on the season. Five different Pirates have at least three assists to their credit: Johannes Pex, JP Marin, Raz Amir, Denis Kelmendi and Jordan Jowers.
