In the debut matchup between these two sides, the Pirates smothered the Flames in the first half, outshooting their opposition 12-to-1. However, the Pirates were unable to convert any of those first half chances, seven of which ended in saves. In the second half, however, Sivert Ryssdalsnes and Tim Valentine found the back of the net to give The Hall a 2-0 win and its first home victory of the season.
With the win, the Pirates move to 4-3-6 on the season and 1-1-2 in BIG EAST play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
As these two sides met for the first time in South Orange, the Pirates quickly imposed an oppressive level of control on the match. Within the first ten minutes, the Pirates logged four shots, including two by Joaquin Brizuela that ended in saves.
Amid the offense's continued push, The Hall's signature defensive style prevented Liberty from holding anything equivalent to sustained possession in the opening half. By the time the visitors logged their first shot in the 28th minute, the Pirates' first-half tally had already risen to nine shots with five saves by the Flames. Despite those chances, the Pirates' offense still could not find a goal. As halftime arrived, the Pirates' scoreless streak extended to 240 minutes as the team sat locked in a 0-0 stalemate.
Out of the break, Liberty seemingly stole the early momentum away from the home side. An offside call bled into their second shot of the match, and within five minutes, it seemed like the visitors may have found life. The Pirates, however, quickly turned the tables back in their favor in the 52nd minute. After dispossessing a player at the midway line, Matt Iriarte danced his way through Liberty's midfield with ease. Upon arriving at the top of the box, Iriarte sent the ball off to the wing where Charlie Herley sat. The wingback shook off the pressure from his defender as he drove to the endline before crossing his ball into the box. This time, the ball found the foot of Sivert Ryssdalsnes, who tapped the ball to the corner of the net to put the Pirates up 1-0.
As the two sides reached for their benches, the Pirates' pressure kept mounting. While Brizuela forced the Flames to make more saves, Devin Armstrong entered the fray in the 77th minute. After finding their way into the box, Liberty launched a curling shot to the far side post. Armstrong was ready, however, and simply dove to collect the ball with relative ease and little worry.RO 🚣 RO 🚣 RO 🚣 Teamwork makes dream, allowing Sivert Ryssdalsnes to put the Pirates in front! #HALLin🔵⚪️⚽️ | 🏴☠️x🇳🇴 https://t.co/Q7xtqLPM1H

As the end of the match neared, Seton Hall continued pressing in search of a goal to snuff out the Flames. Eventually, the Pirates found that moment in the 85th minute. After cycling the ball around, Nico Rubio darted across the top of the box before launching a shot upper 90. The shot soared past Liberty's leaping goalie, but rattled off the crossbar, landing in no man's land four feet from the goal. With reckless abandon, Tim Valentine launched himself towards the box, leaping headfirst towards the ball as he was nearly parallel to the turf. Valentine succeeded, sending the ball dribbling into the net to double The Hall's lead.
With five minutes left, the Pirates sat on the precipice of their first home win of the season and their seventh shutout. Luckily for The Hall, the defense held off the storming Flames to secure the 2-0 win at the final whistle.RO 🚣 RO 🚣 RO 🚣 Teamwork makes dream, allowing Sivert Ryssdalsnes to put the Pirates in front! #HALLin🔵⚪️⚽️ | 🏴☠️x🇳🇴 https://t.co/Q7xtqLPM1H
