SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Despite scoring an early goal, the Seton Hall men's soccer team (3-2-5, 1-0-1 BE) drew the Sacred Heart Pioneers (2-4-4), 0-0, at Owen T. Carroll Field on Tuesday night.
The Pirates found an early lead in the 30th minute when a two-on-two breakaway led to a Hannes Ottosson goal, making it a 1-0 game. Unfortunately, a late penalty kick conversion by Sacred Heart in the dying moments of the first half equalized the match heading into the break. Despite chances in the second half, the Pirates could not convert any of them, ending the match in a 1-1 draw as the final whistle sounded.
With the draw, the Pirates move to 3-2-5 on the season and 1-0-1 in BIG EAST play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
As things kicked off in South Orange, the Pirates found themselves playing against the current on both ends of the pitch. Through 15 minutes, The Hall struggled to maintain possession and was outshot three-to-zero during that span. Yet, the Pirates slowly built momentum by forcing Sacred Heart into mistakes.
Now holding the lead, a wave of fresh legs entered this midweek clash as the Pirates looked to escape the match with the win ahead of a crucial weekend matchup. Unfortunately, Seton Hall's lead would not hold. With less than a minute remaining until halftime, Sacred Heart earned and converted a penalty kick, sending the match to halftime locked at 1-1.
Out of the break, the temperature on the match began to turn up. Within ten minutes of play resuming, two Pioneers earned yellow cards as the Pirates pressed and looked for more mistakes. Despite strong attacking chances in the final third, Seton Hall couldn't put the final pass together to finish many of their chances. As the yellow cards continued to fly, The Hall had another chance to score in the dying moments off a throw-in. The team was unable to convert the chance, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.

The Pioneers' biggest mistake came in the 30th minute when, after misplaying the ball at the midway line, Tim Valentine collected the ball and began streaking down the field. As he approached the box, Hannes Ottosson appeared in Valentine's periphery. The freshman attacker passed the ball to his junior counterpart, who sent the ball into the top left corner, handing the Pirates an early 1-0 lead.THE SWEDE FOR THE LEAD 😤 Hannes Ottosson gives the Pirates the lead with his first career goal! #HALLin🔵⚪️⚽️ | 🏴☠️x🇸🇪 https://t.co/qPMINWKp4U
