PARTY LIKE IT'S 1991
Included in the 2021 Seton Hall Men's Soccer Alumni Celebration, the 1991 men's soccer team will be celebrated as part of the 30-year anniversary of their BIG EAST Championship. Members of the '91 team will be honored at 6:30 p.m. as part of the pregame festivities. Come out to Owen T. Carroll Field and celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the 1991 Seton Hall Men's Soccer BIG EAST Championship team!
LAST TIME OUT
The Pirates came away with their second consecutive overtime victory as they defeated the Black Knights, 3-2 on Tuesday in West Point, N.Y. After a relatively quiet start to the game, the Pirates finally broke through in the 23rd minute. CJ Tibbling (Jarna, Sweden) laid a pass off for Johannes Pex (Stephansposching, Germany) on the far sideline where Pex crossed a ball that Raz Amir (Israel) was able redirect past the Black Knight keeper.

The Black Knights tied things going into half, and nearly 30 minutes into the second period, the Pirates would strike off a James Boote (Southampton, England) corner kick that found the head of Paavo Riihijarvi (Oulu, Finland) to put The Hall up 2-1.

Army rallied for a goal in the 86th minute to send things to OT tied at two. Six minutes into the extra period, JP Marin (Briarwood, N.Y.) laid off a ball to Pex on the far sideline, near where Pex recorded the first assist of the game. This time however, Pex was able to get the ball on net where it bounced in for the game-winning goal.

SCOUTING – Providence (RV) (1-1-1, 0-0-0)
- The Friars currently sit at 3-1-1 on the season and are receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Poll. Most recently, they are coming off a 3-1 win over Loyola University Maryland at home but also have wins over Saint Peter's and then-No. 23 Fordham. The Friars' only setback of the season came on the road at then-No. 14 New Hampshire, 2-1.
- Providence ranks second in the conference in scoring behind the Pirates with 14 goals in five games this season. Gevork Diarbian leads the team with five points (one goal, three assists) while Luis Garcia paces the team in goals at two.
- Lukas Burns has logged the majority of minutes between the pipes for the Friars allowing just four goals in four games and making 14 stops in the process.
- The Friars lead the all-time series 17-13-6 with the Pirates taking the previous matchup between these two teams last season, 2-1. The Friars struck first in that one with a Luis Garcia goal in the 28th minute. The Pirates quickly responded with a Luca Dahn goal just over a minute later assisted by James Boote. With just under four minutes left in the first half, JP Marin tallied on a helper from Johannes Pex as the Pirates held on for the 2-1 win
- After dropping the 2019 season finale to Villanova on Nov. 6, the Pirates have yet to suffer a loss at home since. The Hall put together a 6-0-1 campaign at Owen T. Carroll Field in 2020 with the lone draw against then-No. 3 Georgetown, 1-1. Sitting at 2-0-1 at home this season, the Pirates have been unbeaten at home for 682 days.
- 11 different Pirates have found the back of the net on 17 goals this season. 12 different Pirates tallied for The Hall last season.
- The 17 goals through the first six games of the season are the most for the Pirates since they scored 20 goals in six games to start the 2005 season. As of Sept. 15, The Hall currently ranks second in the nation in total goals (17) and assists (22).
- Leading the nation with five assists and with three more points on Tuesday, Johannes Pex has a team-leading 11 points through six games. Pex tallied twice and picked up an assist across wins against Delaware and NC State earning BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week honor (9/6). The junior was also named to College Soccer News' National Team of the Week. Pex was also selected to the conference's weekly honor roll following his three assists against NJIT (9/10).
- The Pirates win over Army marked the second game in a row, that the Pirates started the scoring with a Raz Amir goal assisted by Johannes Pex. The back-to-back overtime victories are also the first for the Pirates since at least 1985.
- The Pirates were picked second in the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Coaches Poll as the reigning BIG EAST champions were awarded 93 points including three first place votes. Georgetown took the top spot in the poll edging the Pirates by just five points while Creighton, the third team picked, was awarded 74 points.
- CJ Tibbling was selected as the conference's Preseason Co-Offensive Player of the Year and was a unanimous selection for the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad. Tibbling is coming off a 2020 Second Team All-America selection as well as First Team All-BIG EAST honors. On the offensive end, Tibbling led the Pirates with seven goals and 17 points on the season to go along with three assists. With his seven tallies, Tibbling ranked second in the BIG EAST and 20th in the country in goals scored.
- Luca Dahn was honored as the BIG EAST's Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and earned a spot Preseason All-BIG EAST team. Dahn was awarded a 2020 Second Team All-America selection as well as First Team All-BIG EAST honors. In his first year in a Seton Hall uniform, Dahn logged over 1500 minutes for The Hall and was on the pitch for all but nine minutes throughout the campaign. Despite lining up as a center back, Dahn also scored twice for The Hall while registering 12 shots on net, second best on the team.
