South Orange, N.J. — On Senior Day at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium, it was fittingly senior pitchers Cole Hansen and Daniel Frontera that helped seal a series tying victory for the Seton Hall baseball team as the Pirates defeated Marist, 6-4, Saturday afternoon.
Hansen eared the victory after tossing 7.1 strong innings with a season-high seven strikeouts and Frontera picked up the save as he retired all five batters he faced. AJ Soldra reached base in four of his five plate appearances and scored two runs for The Hall while Kevin Milewski hit his seventh home run of the season and drove in a pair of runs.
How It Happened
The Pirates patience at the plate paid off in the top of the first inning where they scored three runs without picking up a hit. Milewski drew a bases loaded walk and Kreiger followed with a fielder's choice RBI. With Casey Cumiskey at the plate and runners at the corners, Krieger dashed to second base and drew a throw from the catcher that allowed Aiden Robbins to score from third, giving Seton Hall a 3-0 lead.
After retiring six of the first seven batters he faced, Marist got back into the game in the top of the third inning where a two-run double and an RBI single knotted up the score at 3-3. The Pirates answered in the home half of the third as Milewski led off the inning with a solo home run that put the Pirates back in front, 4-3. An RBI single for Marist in the top of the fourth tied up the game once again at 4-4 but it would be final run that Hansen would allow the rest of the afternoon.
With the score tied at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth, Magnus Krieger led off the frame with a walk. Later, with Krieger on third and one out, Andrew Bianco's groundout to the right side of the infield allowed Krieger to score easily and give Seton Hall a 5-4 lead. An RBI double off the bat of Aiden Robbins added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. Hansen would retire nine consecutive batters from the fifth through the seventh innings and recorded an our in the eighth before Frontera came out of the bullpen to retire the final two batters. Frontera would go on to make quick work of the Red Foxes in the ninth to record his first career save.
