Pirates Drop Final Non-Conference Match Against Princeton
10/29/2024 10:15:00 PM | Men's Soccer
The first 10 minutes of the match were predominantly mired in the midfield, but four goals in the remaining 35 minutes of the first half put the Pirates in a bind entering the second half. In the second half, Nicolas Baala King Obama scored two goals to try and help bring the Pirates back into the game, but an additional goal from the Tigers halted any Pirate hopes of a comeback.
With the loss, The Hall moves to 10-5-1 on the season and finish non-conference play with a 7-2-0 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first half began quickly with a Princeton shot on goal after 63 seconds, but the two teams quickly eased themselves into a turgid midfield battle.
In the 14th minute, a Tigers corner stirred chaos in the box, allowing Issa Mudashiru to slip it past Soren Jensen to put Princeton up 1-0. Not long after in the 19th minute, the Tigers took advantage of the Pirates keeper being off his line to make it a 2-0 following a long midfield strike from Liam Beckwith that ended on a header from Harry Roberts. After a strong period of back and forth, an 30th minute breakway by Princeton lead to a goal for Daniel Ittycheria.
The Pirates best first half chance came in the 38th minute when, in a crowded box off a Pirate corner, Agustin Resch launched a shot from just outside the goal area that was saved by Tigers keeper William Watson.
In the 45th minute, a rebounding ball from a Tiger corner kick was served into the box and found the foot of Issa Mudashiru, who scored his second goal of the night and extended the Tigers lead to 4-0
In the second half, Princeton put up another goal when Garry Zheng finished a cross after running into The Hall's box to increase the Pirates' deficit.
In the 69th minute, the Pirates landed their first goal of the evening off a first-time goal scorer. Immediately after entering the match, an Axel Berglund corner kick lead to a Nicolas Baala King Obama header that went past the Tigers' keeper to cut the deficit to four.
In the 85th minute, the Obama scored his second career goal and first brace of off a long assist for Ian Albuquerque. The Pirates could not close the gap in the final five minutes however, falling 5-2.
