Pirates Travel to Xavier for Match With Big BIG EAST Implications

South Orange, N.J. - Seton Hall men's soccer looks to rebound in their penultimate game of BIG EAST play when the Pirates travel to Corcoran Field in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Saturday to take on Xavier. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

This is the 10^th all-time meeting between the two teams.

SERIES HISTORY

Seton Hall and Xavier last met on September 17, 2022, in an early season match where Musketeers were ranked No. 24 in the nation. After the two sides jockeyed for momentum early, Xavier found the back of the net first in the 38th minute to grab a 1-0 lead. The Musketeers would hold on to that lead heading into the break. After a early second half lull, in the 79th minute the Musketeers would score off a header in the box to take a 2-0 lead. In the 84th minute, a great individual effort from Borg allowed him to find space at the edge of the six-yard box and blasted one past Xavier goalkeeper Cole Jensen to cut the Musketeer lead to 2-1. The Pirates managed to secure one final chance in the 90^th minute when Andrea Borg was fouled in the penalty area, drawing a PK for the Pirates. Johannes Pex stepped up to the spot and buried the penalty kick, securing a 2-2 draw at the death.
This is the 10^th matchup between the two programs, the first of which came in 1979.
Seton Hall is 1-7-1 all-time against Xavier.

SCOUTING XAVIER

Xavier is 4-6-5 on the season with a 1-3-2 record in the BIG EAST.
The Musketeers have played two ranked opponents this season.

PIRATES SUFFER FIRST HOME LOSS AGAINST ST. JOHN'S

In the 24^th minute, the Pirates got their first opportunity when Tim Ströbeck went streaking down the field toward the Red Storm's keeper. The Hassleholm, Sweden, native launched a shot which the keeper ultimately saved, but it began the Pirates' run of pressure.
In the 25^th minute, St. John's drew a penalty kick after The Hall's Virgil Dall'Agnoll was given a yellow card for a handball in the box off a corner kick. St. John's Martin Kozak converted the kick to put the Red Storm up 1-0, despite keeper Soren Jensen nearly saving the ball.
Matias Molina registered two saves, pushing his season total to 18.
The Pirates had five corners to St. John's four.
Seton Hall had two offsides compared to six for St. John's.
This was the 46th matchup between the two programs, the first of which came in 1979.
