INDIANAPOLIS – The Seton Hall softball team split a doubleheader with Butler on Friday at Butler Softball Field. Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) led the way for the Pirates with five hits and four RBIs over the two games.

How it Happened

The Pirates got on the board first with two runs in the first. Hill doubled to center and Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) singled home Hill to put the Pirates up 2-0.
Hill and Barracato added two more RBIs each in the top of the third. Hill singled home a run before Barracato knocked home a run to double the Pirates' lead.
Butler would add a run in the fourth, but the Pirates would respond with three runs in the fifth. Hill came through yet again with another run scoring base hit, this time a two-run single through the left side to give her four RBIs on the afternoon. Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) would then add an RBI single to right to make it a 7-1 game.
The Bulldogs would add two runs in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth to make it a 7-5 ballgame. With two runners on, Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) came on in relief and proceeded to strike out the side, all looking, to preserve the Pirates' lead.
Following a Barracato double in the seventh, Allender would add an insurance run for the Pirates for an 8-5 final.

How it Happened

The Pirates were the first team on the board in game two as Hill picked up right where she left off with another RBI single to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
Butler would respond with a two-run homer in the bottom half of the inning to take a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth, following singles from Hill and Barracato, Jenna Blevins (Flat Rock, Mich.) would give The Hall the lead with a two-out, two-run single to right to make it a 3-2 game.
The Bulldogs would get a run on a solo homer in the sixth to tie things at three.
In the bottom of the seventh, a bunt, followed by a stolen base, followed by a sac bunt would score the game-winning run.

Notes and Numbers

Hill would go 5-for-7 with five RBIs over the two games to raise her conference-only average to a team-leading .462 with eight RBIs and four doubles.
Ehrenberg picks up the win in game one tossing 4.2 innings with two earned runs for her first win off the season.
Smith picked up her second save of the season in game one with four strikeouts over two innings of relief.
With the split, the Pirates moved to 12-12 on the season and 4-4 in the BIG EAST.

The Pirates will play the series finale with the Bulldogs on Sunday with first pitch set for noon.
