CHICAGO – Jordan Jowers (Middlesbrough, England) tallied late as the Pirates picked up their first BIG EAST victory of the season, 1-0, over DePaul on Wednesday. Keeper Andreas Nota (Rome, Italy) pitched a shutout in the win at Wish Field as the Pirates improved to 5-5-2 on the season.
How it Happened
Seton Hall got the better of opportunities in the first half, holding advantages in shots, 9-3, and shots on target, 2-0. The Pirate defense did well to keep the Blue Demon offense out of the attacking zone by limiting DePaul to just three shots, none on frame, in the first period of play. Still, the Pirates entered the break in a scoreless draw with the host-Blue Demons.
Turning Point
Following an hour delay due to lighting in the area about halfway through the second half, the Pirates came out hot despite the soggy weather. In the 81st minute, CJ Tibbling (Jarna, Sweden) made an aggressive run for the Blue Demon box where he was met with a tackle from a DePaul defender. The ball shot up into the air as Jowers used his body to better position himself once the ball landed while shielding the final Blue Demon defender. Once he corralled the bounce, Jowers was able to successfully beat the keeper with a low strike into the left corner of the net for what would eventually become the game-winner.
Led by Nota in net, the Pirate defense was able to blank the DePaul offense for the remainder of the second period and ensure the 1-0 road victory.
