Game 1 – Seton Hall 9, Lehigh 7
How it Happened
- The Mountain Hawks jumped out to a big early lead, scoring runs in each of the first three innings capped by a four-spot in the third to go up 7-1
- The Hall began to climb back in the bottom of the third when Katherine Matthys (Spring Branch, Texas) hit a bases-clearing three-run triple off the wall in center field to cut the lead to three
- In the bottom of the fourth, Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) smacked an infield single to bring home a run before an error on the play cut the deficit in 7-6
- The Pirates would get even by way of Matthys once again, leveling the score with an RBI single
- Still in the fourth SHU took its first lead when Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) and Matthys pulled off a double steal off second and home to go up 8-7
- Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) capped the big fourth inning with an RBI single
- The Hall would Lehigh quiet over the final four frames, with Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) retiring eight in a row between the third and fifth innings before giving way to Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) in the sixth
- Strunk tossed a pair of scoreless innings, closing the game with with an assist from a double play in the seventh inning to earn her first save of the year
- The Hall held an 11-10 edge in hits and each side recorded one error
- Arteaga, Head and Matthys each had two hits, with Matthys notching a career-high four RBIs
- Allender, Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Emily Supercynski (Aurora, Colo.) all doubled
- The double for Barracato was her league-leading 16th two-bagger, tying Kim Jackson (1999) and Katie Pierce (2006) for the most in a single season in Seton Hall history
- Matthy's triple was the first of her career, as was her fourth inning stolen base
- The save for Strunk was her first this season and the third of the senior's career
Game 2 – Lehigh 6, Seton Hall 0
How it Happened
- Lehigh again got on the board early, putting up single runs in the first and second innings before adding two more in the third to go up 4-0
- The Pirates did not record a hit until an Allender triple in the bottom of the fourth, then threatened with the bases loaded in the bottom of the fifth before an inning-ending groundout
- The Mountain Hawks extended their lead to six with a two-run single in the top of the sixth
- With two away in the bottom of the seventh the Pirates fought their way to load the bases, but a deep fly to left was handled to cap the Lehigh shutout
- The Hall was out-hit 11-3 and committed two errors, leading to a pair of unearned runs
- The fourth inning triple for Allender was her second of the season
- Alyssa Abron (Sulphur Springs, Texas) and Pandolfo added singles for The Hall
- Strunk tossed a scoreless seventh inning and has not allowed an earned run over her last 13.1 innings of work
- The Pirates are now 4-8 all-time against Lehigh, also splitting a doubleheader with the Mountain Hawks back on Feb. 22
The Pirates are back in South Orange for the final time in 2019 this weekend when they welcome Georgetown to Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field for a three-game set. The massive BIG EAST series kicks off on Saturday, April 26 with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
