Pirates Split On Day One at Pacific

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Seton Hall softball team (7-3) split its first two games at the Louisville Slugger Tournament hosted by Pacific on Friday night. After a setback to East Carolina, The Hall bounced back with an 8-4 win over Pacific in the nightcap of day one of the tournament.
Following an 8-0 setback to ECU in five innings, The Hall scored eight runs in the final three innings to notch an 8-4 comeback win over host Pacific. Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) delivered a go-ahead two run single against Pacific while also firing 2.0 scoreless innings against the Tigers to pick up the save and seal the victory.
Game 1 Notes – East Carolina 8, Seton Hall 0 (Five Innings)
- East Carolina used the home run ball to fell The Hall, taking the lead with a solo home run in the the second inning before notching three more home run balls in the fourth to build a 5-0 lead
- The Hall was out-hit 11-3 in the setback
- Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) went 2-for-2 in the contest, while Lauren Fischer (Robbinsville, N.J.) added a double)
- The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead, scoring with an unearned run in the second and an RBI double in the fourth
- The Pirates answered with a three-spot in the top of the fifth, using an RBI single from Suto and a throwing error to take a 3-2 advantage
- After Pacific re-took the lead in the bottom of the fifth, The Hall scored three times in the top of the sixth with a game-tying single from Emily Supercynski (Aurora, Colo.) before Head's two-run single that gave the Pirates a 6-4 edge
- Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) helped add a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh by driving in Suto with an RBI double before scoring on a wild pitch
- Walkden's seventh-inning RBI was the 100th of her career, becoming the sixth player in progam history to hit the century mark in RBIs
- The Hall held a slight 8-7 edge in hits in the triumph, committing one error compared to three for Pacific
- Suto and Supercynski both recorded multi-hit efforts in the win, while Fischer drew three walks
- Head fired 2.0 scoreless innings and struck out a pair to earn her first career save
The Hall continues play at the Lousiville Slugger Tournament on Saturday, facing Portland State and Pacific.
