The Hall Splits Again On Day Two at Pacific
3/4/2017 11:44:00 PM | Softball
STOCKTON, Calif. – The Seton Hall softball team (8-4) continued play at the Louisville Slugger Tournament on Saturday, defeating Portland State before falling to host Pacific. The Pirates now stand at 2-2 in the tournament and will close their run on Sunday against East Carolina.
After smashing three home runs in an 8-5 win over PSU in game one of the day, The Hall dropped a low-scoring contest against Pacific that saw the two sides combine for only four hits.
Game 1 Notes – Seton Hall 8, Portland State 5
- Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) got the scoring started early, smacking her third home run of the year and the 31st of her career in the first inning to put The Hall up 1-0
- The Vikings jumped ahead with a four-spot in the top of the second, but The Hall answered in the bottom of the frame with a two-run home run from Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) before a run-scoring safety squeeze from Sara Foster (Long Beach, Calif.) tied the contest at 4-4
- With the contest tied at 5-5 in the bottom of the fourth, Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) cracked a two-run double to plate a pair before Noel Lent (Yaphank, N.Y.) added another run-scoring two-bagger in the fifth
- Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) tossed 4.0 scoreless innings in relief to pick up her second win, striking out three and not walking a batter
- Valerie Suto (Mercerville, N.J.) went 1-for-1 with two walks, a stolem base and two runs scored, while Walkden also scored twice
- The Hall notched the victory despite being out-hit 13-7
- Pacific scored twice with unearned run on RBI fielder's choices in the bottom of the first and added another run on a passed ball in the second
- The Hall out-hit Pacific 3-1, with Foster going 2-for-3 and Walkden adding a hit
- The Tigers capitalized on two Pirate errors and did not commit one of their own
- Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) was excellent in 5.0 innings out of the bullpen, allowing one hit and striking out six against two walks
- The setback comes after The Hall defeated Pacific, 8-4, on Friday night
The Pirates close their run at the Louisville Slugger Tournament against East Carolina at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
