Pirates Take Series Opener from Villanova, 9-3

Gabe Cavazzoni, Ryan Frontera and Magnus Krieger all had two-RBI days as the top of the Pirate order produced the majority of the offense for the home side. Four of the top five hitters in the batting order picked up two hits.
How it Happened
After Seton Hall starter Steven Svenson worked a 1-2-3 first inning, the Pirates got right to work with manufacturing runs. Cavazzoni led off the day with a double, later advancing to third on a SAC bunt. Frontera would then bring him home on a SAC fly to left to give Seton Hall the early edge. The teams would trade runs in the early going, as Villanova answered to tie things up in the second only to be answered by another Pirate sacrifice fly in the bottom half. However, Villanova would use an RBI double in the top of the third to level things up again at 2-2.
Seton Hall's bats would make some noise in the bottom of the third. After a pair of walks and a single to open the inning, another SAC fly from Frontera brought home Tommy Manzo with the go-ahead run. Next up was Krieger, who bounced a single into center field to score a pair of runs and put The Hall up, 5-2.

The fourth Pirate sacrifice fly of the game came courtesy of Cavazzoni in the fourth, lifting a ball to left to score Vincent Duffy with the sixth Seton Hall run. More insurance would come the Pirates' way late, as a two out single from Duffy in the sixth gave way for Manzo. The shortstop laced a ball to the gap in right center for an RBI triple to increase The Hall's lead to 7-2. After the Wildcats got one back in the seventh, the Pirates would respond with an RBI triple from Cavazzoni and an RBI single from Grady to cap off the win.
