How it Happened
Seton Hall held the lead at two different points in this one, including striking right away in the bottom of the first inning. Shea Grady was struck by a pitch with one out, and eventually advanced around to third after a pair of wild pitches. After a strikeout put the inning at risk of going for naught, Magnus Krieger found a hole in the right side of the infield for an RBI single to put Seton Hall ahead.
Pirates' starter Steven Svenson had a stellar outing, working three scoreless innings to open the game. UConn got to him in the fourth on a solo home run, but the righty worked around the leadoff blast to keep the game knotted at 1-1.
Seton Hall was able to answer back in the bottom of the fourth, as two singles and a hit batsmen loaded the bases with no one out. Frankie Scrivanic, who had three hits on the day, laced a two-run single to right center to give the Pirates a 3-1 edge. Seton Hall threatened for more after sacrificing a pair of runners into scoring position with one out, but back-to-back strikeouts helped the Huskies avoid further damage.
UConn was able to tie things up with a two-spot in the fifth inning, using small ball to even the score at 3-3. The score remained the same until the seventh, when a successful squeeze play gave the Huskies the lead for good, 4-3.
