Stony Brook, N.Y. — The Seton Hall baseball team hit two home runs over the final two innings and it brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but the Pirates ultimately came up short as Stony Brook won the opening game of a three-game series, 7-3, Friday afternoon at Joe Nathan Field.

Kevin Milewski hit his fourth home run of the season and Tommy Manzo hit his first career blast in the game's final frame. Aiden Robbins went 2-for-4 as did Jimmy Brennan but the Seton Hall offense wasn't able to drive them in. Ryan Reich started the game for the Pirates and he went 3.1 innings allow one run, two walks and tallied four strikeouts.

How It Happened

Reich allowed runners to reach in both the first and second innings but he was able to escape trouble. The Pirates helped his cause in the top of the third where Brennan smacked a single to center field that allow Marco Ali to score for the game's first run.

The Seawolves got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth inning as an RBI double knotted up the game at 1-1. Mason Christopher came out of the bullpen to retire the rest of the side in the fourth before blanking Stony Brook in the fifth. The Pirates put two runners on in the sixth as Magnus Krieger reached on an infield single and Ryan Frontera drew a walk. The Hall couldn't score however and it came back to haunt them as the Seawolves scored in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead.

Stony Brook pushed across four more runs in the seventh to extend its lead to 7-1. Seton Hall wouldn't go away quietly however as Milewski hit a solo home run that led off the top of the eighth. In the ninth, Manzo also led off the frame with a one-run blast that made it a four-run ballgame, 7-3. Despite loading the bases with one out, the Pirates were unable to extend the game as Stony Brook recorded the next two outs to seal the victory.
