Late Rally Not Enough For The Hall Against Hofstra, 4-3

South Orange, N.J. — Despite a solid staff performance from Seton Hall pitching and a late rally, the bats were kept quiet for most of the afternoon as the Pirates dropped a midweek contest to Hofstra, 4-3, on Wednesday at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium.
The Pride scattered 12 hits but the Pirates' pitching staff surrendered just four runs and three walks. Anthony Ehly (Glenside, Pa.) threw four innings in his start and recorded three strikeouts while allowing just one run and one walk. Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) stayed hot by registering his fourth multi-hit performance in his last six games. Max Viera (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) posted a two-run double and Frankie Scrivanic (Tinton Falls, N.J.) had an RBI double in the ninth inning.Â
How It Happened
It was a pitcher's duel through the first three innings as both sides put runners on base but ultimately went scoreless. Ehly retired the side in order in the top of the third inning but Hofstra struck first in the top of the fourth on a solo home run. An RBI single in the fifth extended Hofstra's lead to 2-0 before another run-scoring base hit in the top of the seventh put the score at 3-0.
The Seton Hall offense showed life in the bottom of the eighth where Kevin Milewski (Wallingford, Conn.) worked a two-out walk and Aiden Robbins (Yardley, Pa.) was hit by a pitch. With runners now on first and second, Viera stepped to the plate and sent a double to the left center field gap that cleared the bases and cut the Pirates' deficit to one, 3-2.
The Hall couldn't keep Hofstra off the scoreboard in the top of the ninth as the Pride manufactured a run that pushed their lead up to two, 4-2. The Pirates worked some more two-out magic in the the bottom of the ninth inning where a double by Scrivanic scored a Cole Zak (Cleveland, Ohio) made it a one-run game again, 4-3. After a wild pitch moved Scrivanic to third base, the Pride was able to induce a ground ball for the the third out that ended the game.
