Hempstead, N.Y. -- Redshirt senior Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and freshman Jayson Torres (East Islip, N.Y.) struck out five batters in four innings pitched as the Pirates fell to Hofstra, 3-2.
Freshman Aiden Robbins (Yardley, Pa.) went 1-for-4 to extend his hit streak to six games and senior Nate Espelin (Belmont, Mass.) picked up three strikeouts in 1.1 innings pitched.
How It Happened
Hofstra got on the board early after scoring on a passed ball to make it a 1-0 game in the second inning. Hofstra tacked on another run in the fourth inning on a double to extend their lead by two.
The Pirates tied the game in the top of the seventh inning by scoring one run on a Pokrovsky double and then tying the game on a fielder's choice from redshirt senior Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.). The Pirates late push to tie the game fell short as Hofstra regained the lead in the bottom of the eighth on a fielder's choice to make it a 3-2 ballgame.
