
Pirates Hit the Capital For Three-Game Series With Georgetown

WASHINGTON - The Seton Hall softball team begins the second half of its BIG EAST schedule with a three-game road series at Georgetown. With Easter coming this Sunday, the series has moved up to Thursday-Friday-Saturday with games takes place at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy, located in Fort Dupont Park in the southeast section of the city. Thursday's game time has been moved up to noon due to impending weather, and Friday and Saturday's games are scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Pirates faced in-state rival Rutgers on the road this past Tuesday and topped the Scarlet Knights, 5-3, on the strength of a four-run rally in the fifth inning. Freshman Jenna Blevins (Flat Rock, Mich.) had the big blow, smacking a two-run single to left field that turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Junior Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) went 3-for-3 at the plate, and junior Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) tossed her fourth consecutive complete game.

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN
- The Hoyas are 12-20 overall and 2-8 in the BIG EAST, coming off dropping all three road contests at Villanova this past weekend.
- Georgetown has hit 33 home runs on the season, second-most among the nine BIG EAST teams. First baseman Abby Smith is tied for third in the conference with eight home runs.
- Catcher Mae Forshey has the most extra-base hits on the team with 19 (12 doubles, one triple, six home runs).
- Georgetown has the highest ERA in the conference at 5.09 and has also allowed the most walks (130) and home runs (34).
- Seton Hall is 19-11 all-time against Georgetown, including 10-8 in road games. The Pirates have not played at Georgetown since May 2018.
- Seton Hall sits in sixth place in the BIG EAST standings, three-and-a-half games behind Villanova for the fourth and final spot in the BIG EAST Tournament.
- With the Pirates' first win against Manhattan on April 2, head coach Angie Churchill picked up her 200th career NCAA victory.
- Taylor Hill has turned it on in conference play for the Pirates, leading all qualified hitters with a .400 average, seven doubles and one home run in 12 BIG EAST games. She leads the league in conference-only doubles and is eighth in average and ninth in slugging (.650).
- Junior Abby Wingo leads the team and is second in the conference in overall doubles with 11.
- The Pirates, along with Creighton, DePaul and UConn, are one of four teams in the conference to have multiple BIG EAST Player of the Week selections. Janae Barracato earned the distinction for the Pirates on Feb. 21 while Shelby Smith did the same on March 21. Lauren Caye was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Feb. 21 following a weekend in which she went 3-for-5 (.600) with three home runs in three Pirate wins at the Retriever Round Robin hosted by UMBC. Additionally, Smith (3x) and Hill have been named to the conference's weekly honor roll for the Pirates.
- Smith is on a tear on the mound, pitching four consecutive complete games. On April 8, she tossed 13 innings and allowed just two runs while striking out 11. In overall stats, she is fourth in the BIG EAST in ERA (2.79), fifth in opponent batting average (.238) and sixth in strikeouts (93). In conference only stats, she is fifth in ERA (2.09) and third in strikeouts (53).
- The Pirates currently lead the BIG EAST in doubles with 54 and are seventh in the nation in doubles per game at 1.80.
- On Feb. 20, the Pirates accounted for 30 runs, 28 hits and nine home runs in two wins over UMBC and Saint Joseph's. The 19 runs in the win over UMBC in game one set the program record for most runs in a game while the 17-run differential was the largest margin of victory in program history. The 19 hits tied a program record.
- The Pirates have scored 10-plus runs in five games this season.
- With Wingo's home run against Monmouth on March 23, 10 different Pirates have hit a dinger this season compared to eight different Pirates who jumped the yard from a season ago.
