Hill's Grand Slam Headlines Pirates Pushing Past Georgetown, 11-1

WASHINGTON - Freshman Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) smashed a fourth-inning grand slam to headline an explosive afternoon for Seton Hall softball, which produced 12 hits en route to an 11-1 win at Georgetown in five innings, Thursday at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy complex.

Seton Hall is now 5-8 in BIG EAST play and improves to 16-16 overall.

Hill finished the afternoon 3-for-3 with 6 RBI and three runs scored, continuing her hot start to conference play.

How It Happened
The Pirates jumped on Georgetown out of the gate with Hill hitting an RBI double to score junior Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas). Hill herself scored on an error to give the Pirates a 2-0 lead.

It was 5-1 to begin the top of the fourth inning when the Pirates unloaded by scoring six runs and having seven straight batters reach base. Freshman Lauren Caye (Pittsburgh, Pa.) doubled home a pair of her teammates to make it 7-1. Then The Hall loaded the bases for Hill, who smacked the first pitch she saw over the right-center fence for the team's second grand slam of the season.

From there, junior Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) as she pitched her fifth consecutive complete game. When she recorded the last out of the fifth inning, the run rule was invoked as the Pirates had more than an eight-run lead.

Numbers and Notes

In addition to going 3-for-3 at the plate, Hill scored three runs and drove in six, both career highs. It was her third three-hit game of her career. She is now hitting .442 with 11 extra-base hits in 13 conference games.
Colonnetta went 3-for-3 at the plate and is now a perfect 6-for-6 in at-bats this week.
Caye was 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Smith allowed just three hits and one unearned run over five innings. She struck out two and did not walk a batter as she pitched her fifth consecutive complete game. She lowered her BIG EAST ERA to 1.94.
Seton Hall now is 20-11 all-time against Georgetown, including 11-8 in road games.
This was the sixth time that the Pirates scored in double figures this season and first since putting up 12 against Nevada on March 4.
