The Hall scored three times in the bottom of the first, and Camp came on in the top of the third with the Pirates holding a precarious one-run lead. They were able to keep that advantage until BU tied the game in the sixth, then saw the Bulldogs hit a solo home run in extra innings to salvage game three of the conference series. The Hall won the series by way of a doubleheader sweep on Saturday.
How it Happened
- Butler struck first with an RBI double in the top of the first to go up 1-0
- The Hall answered quickly, seeing five of its first six batters reach base and taking a 3-1 lead with RBI hits from Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) and Jaden Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.)
- The Bulldogs pulled within a run in the top of the third thanks to a solo home run, and put two more runners on before Camp was summoned to strand a pair with back-to-back strikeouts
- After striking out the side in the fourth, the junior again worked out of trouble with two more strikeouts in the fifth to strand the bases loaded
- Butler finally leveled the score in the sixth when a run came home on a wild pitch strikeout
- The Pirates put a potential go-ahead runner in scoring position in the bottom of the sixth, but back-to-back strikeouts by BU hurler Alyssa Graves kept the game tied
- Butler took its first lead since the first inning with a solo home run in the top of the eighth
- Graves was able to set the final eight Pirates she faced down to preserve BU's win
- The Bulldogs out-hit the Pirates 10-4, with SHU committing the game's lone error
- In addition to RBI hits from Peck and Tate, the Pirates got singles from Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) and Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) in the setback
- Camp's final line saw the hurler toss 5.2 innings and allow two runs on four hits with one walk against her career-best 12 strikeouts
- The 12-strikeout game for Camp marked her second career double-digit strikeout effort and first since fanning 10 in the 2018 season opener against Abilene Christian
- With a first inning RBI, Peck moves into the top-20 in SHU history with 65 career runs batted in
The Pirates will be back in action for midweek play on Thursday, hosting Hofstra at 4 p.m.
