BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Seton Hall softball team (18-26) rallied from four down in the sixth inning, but eventually fell at Lehigh (15-22) in walk-off fashion, 6-4, on Thursday afternoon at Leadership Park. Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) hit a home run for the Pirates and Alexis Walkden (Cibolo, Texas) had two doubles and two RBIs in the setback.

The Hall was down 4-0 heading to the top of the sixth, but five batters into the frame had evened the score at 4-4. Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.) pitched into the seventh inning in the longest start of her career, but was relieved after a leadoff walk in the seventh before the walk-off later in the frame.

How It Happened

Lehigh got on the board in the bottom of the first, using a leadoff walk and stolen base to manufacture a run on a sacrifice fly and go up 1-0
The Mountain Hawks tacked on to their lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, and added two more unearned in the fifth to take a 4-0 advantage
The Pirates cut into the lead in the top of the sixth, drawing back-to-back walks to open the frame before Walkden roped a double to the gap that plated two runs
Two batters later, Beaver leveled the score with a mammoth two-run home run to left center
The Pirates threatened again in the top of the seventh by way of a one-out walk and Brianna Wallace (Fort Worth, Texas) stolen base, but Wallace was stranded at second
The Mountain Hawks would end it in the bottom of the seventh with a two-run walk-off home run from Carolyn Wright

Notes & Numbers

The Pirates were out-hit 9-5 in the setback and committed four errors
Sobel took a tough-luck loss in a career-high 6.0 innings, allowing five runs (two earned)
Walkden's two double were her fifth and sixth of the season and she now has 42 in her career, six shy of the Seton Hall program record
Beaver now has three home runs and 25 RBIs during her freshman campaign
After hitting one home run in The Hall's first 40 contests, Beaver has gone deep twice in her last four games

The Pirates return to South Orange this weekend for their final home BIG EAST series. The Hall will host Creighton for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 and a single-game on Sunday, April 22.
