Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) combined to knock in three runs in the top of the eighth inning, after The Hall forced extras despite being down 2-1 in the seventh inning.
How it Happened
- Neither team got on the board until the bottom of the third, when Holy Cross scratched across a run with an RBI single
- The Hall remained down 1-0 until the top of the sixth when they loaded the bases before Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) brought home a run on a fielder's choice to even the score
- The Crusaders quickly jumped back ahead with another RBI single in the bottom of the sixth
- Down a run heading into the final frame, The Hall rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh
- Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) got the scoring started with a game-tying RBI double before coming home to score the go-ahead run on a wild pitch
- Emily Supercynski (Aurora, Colo.) tacked onto the lead later in the frame with another RBI double to give the Pirates a 4-2 lead
- Holy Cross responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the contest to extras
- Undeterred, The Hall scored three more in the top of the eight with an RBI single from Barracato before a two-run double for Beaver to give The Hall a 7-4 lead which stood as the final
- The Hall improves to 4-0 all-time against Holy Cross
- The Pirates are now 3-0 in extra innings this season
- The Hall was out-hit 10-8 in the win, but recorded six of those hits after the fifth inning
- Arteaga went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, while Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) also notched a two-hit effort
- Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) tossed an 8.0 inning complete game, allowing three earned runs and not walking a batter
- Supercynski extended her hitting streak to seven games and is hitting .500 (10-20) in that span
- The multi-hit effort for Allender was the freshman's third through eight starts this year
The Pirates will play their first games at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field on Tuesday after 28 games away from South Orange. The Hall is set to host Central Connecticut for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
