NEW YORK - Seton Hall men's soccer sophomore Andres Arcila (Cartagena, Colombia) has been named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll, the league announced on Monday (Sept. 28). The honor roll nod is the first for a Pirate this season and comes for Arcila on the heels of a five-point week.
Following his first career goal at Monmouth on Sept. 22, Arcila scored again and also added an assist against No. 1 Creighton at home on Sept. 26. The three-point effort was the first for any opponent against the Bluejays since Seattle's Miguel Gonzalez on Nov. 21, 2013. It was also the first three-point outing for a Pirate this season.
Late in the first half at Monmouth, Arcila worked into the box and found his way to the receiving end of a low John Philbin (Emmaus, Pa.) cross to punch home a goal in the 39th minute and cut a Hawk lead to 2-1. Against No. 1 Creighton, Arcila found an equalizer in the 27th minute for The Hall when he buried a Samuel Geiler (Offenberg, Germany) rebound in the box. In the 72nd minute with the score still level, Arcila lofted a long lob pass downfield that Danny Bartok (Union, N.J.) was able to run down and chip home to give The Hall a 2-1 advantage.
Arcila leads the Pirates with seven points on the year, coming via two goals and a team-best three assists. He currently ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in assists and is tops on Seton Hall with 17 shots, including seven on goal.
The Pirates return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 when they host local rival St. John's for a BIG EAST conference tilt. The match marks The Hall's 2015 debut on the BIG EAST Digital Network, with the contest kicking off at 7 p.m on the BEDN and FOX Sports GO app.
