
Pirates Visit Providence For Saturday Matinee

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Seton Hall men's soccer team continues BIG EAST play on Saturday with a trip to the Ocean State to take on Providence at Ray Treacy Track & Field Complex. The Pirates (0-10-1, 0-4-0 BIG EAST) and Friars (5-5-1, 1-3-0) will meet for the 32nd time at 4:05 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network/FOX Sports GO app.
The Hall most recently dropped a heart-breaker on Wednesday, falling in the first minute of double overtime to DePaul by a score of 3-2. After the Blue Demons took a 1-0 lead to the half, Danny Bartok (Union, N.J.) powered home his team-high third goal of the year at the one-hour mark to level the contest. In the 80th minute, Spencer Burkhardt (Palmyra, Pa.) gained space and ripped a 25-yard strike top shelf for his first career goal and a 2-1 lead. The Blue Demons found an equalizer four minutes later with a Simon Megally goal, then got a winner in the 101st minute from John Freitag. The Pirates held a 14-9 advantage in shots in the contest, while shots on goal were even at seven apiece.
Bartok's third goal moved him into a tie with Samuel Geiler (Offenburg, Germany) for the team-lead. Andres Arcila (Cartagena, Colombia) and Geiler share the Pirate-high with seven points apiece, followed by Bartok with six. Eric Lagg (Lafayette, N.J.) assisted on Burkhardt's goal against DePaul and now has three points this season.
Providence Hosts Seton Hall with a 5-5-1 record on the year, sporting a 1-3-0 mark in BIG EAST play. The Friars most recently fell by a score of 2-1 at Villanova on Wednesday. Mac Steeves powers the PC offense with eight goals and 17 points on the year, ranking second in the BIG EAST in goals and third in points. Julian Gressel (1g-4a-6p) and Dominik Machado (2g-2a-6p) are tied for second on the yea in scoring behind Steeves. Ben Seguljic has played every minute in goal this season for Providence and holds a 1.05 GAA with a .676 save percentage and three shutouts.
The Pirates are 12-13-6 all-time against Providence in a series that dates back to 1982. The last victory for The Hall in the series came in 2012, a 2-1 triumph. The Friars grabbed a 3-0 victory in South Orange last season.
After the Providence match, The Hall returns to South Orange for its penultimate home match on 2015 on Oct. 24 against Butler.
