SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The Seton Hall men's soccer team (0-9-1, 0-3-0 BIG EAST) returns home on Wednesday night for a BIG EAST clash with DePaul (2-10-0, 1-2-0) at Owen T. Carroll Field. Kick-off between the Pirates and Blue Demons is set for 7:05 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network/FOX Sports GO.
The Hall began a late-season stretch run of BIG EAST contests on Saturday at Marquette, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Golden Eagles. The Pirates held a 14-10 advantage in total shots and a 6-2 edge in shots on goal in the setback but could not find the back of the net. MU got a 52nd minute goal from David Selvaggi after a scoreless opening frame which eventually held up as the game-winner. Andres Arcila (Cartagena, Colombia) fired three shots to pace The Hall while Samuel Geiler (Offenburg, Germany) put a pair on target. Alex Pozesky (Columbia, Pa.) and Chris Salazar (Edison, N.J.) both notched their first-career shots on goal in the contest as well.
Arcila and Geiler are tied for the team-lead with seven points on the year to pace The Hall. Geiler has netted a squad-best three goals and added an assist, while Arcila is top-10 in the BIG EAST with three assists and has also scored twice. Danny Bartok (Union, N.J.) has also found the back of the net twice for The Hall
DePaul visits South Orange with a 2-10-0 record on the year and a 1-2-0 mark in BIG EAST play, coming off a 3-2 victory over Villanova on Saturday. Simon Megally netted the game-winner against the Wildcats and leads DePaul with five goals (third in the BIG EAST), 10 points and 37 shots on the year. Erik rodriguez is second on the squad with a 3-2-8 scoring line and Hans Wustling paces the Blue Demons with five assists on the year, tied for third-most in the conference.
The Hall is 1-3-1 all-time against DePaul in a series that dates back to the Blue Demons arrival in the BIG EAST in 2005. After meeting sporadically (2005, 2008 and 2011) the sides have squared off each of the last two seasons, trading a pair of 3-1 results as The Hall took a win in 2013 before a DePaul victory a year ago. George Velasquez netted a brace in the '13 meeting in South Orange, before Geiler assisted on a Kai Greene goal in the '14 setback in Chicago.
The DePaul contest is the second in a late-season run of seven BIG EAST contests to close out the regular season. After squaring off with the Blue Demons, The Hall visits Providence on Saturday, Oct. 17.
