For Connecticut, the win avenged a 1-0 loss to Seton Hall last season in South Orange and allowed the Huskies to regain a slim 15-14-3 lead in the all-time series.
Despite an even number of eight shot attempts for both teams in the opening half, Connecticut still managed to take a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to goals from Stephane Diop and Mamadou Diouf.
Seton Hall leading scorer Max Garcia (Jersey City, N.J.) dictated much of the play for Seton Hall, finishing with a team-high five shot attempts in the game and the Pirates' only two shots on goal, both in the first half.
Garcia had a shot blocked just sixteen seconds into the action then had SHU's first shot on net just moments after freshman Eric Lagg (Lafayette, N.J.) had a shot sail wide, but Connecticut's Andre Blake was there to make the save.
Flo Liu hooked up with Diouf just 3:22 into the second half on a give and go in the box to put Connecticut up by three and Diouf collected his second goal and fifth points of the match in the 62nd minute to round out the scoring.
Junior Kevin Bonder (Whippany, N.J.) made two saves in net for Seton Hall. Connecticut finished the game with an 18-11 edge in shot attempts, and the Huskies fired six shots on net, compared to two for the Pirates.
Seton Hall (6-8, 2-4) continues conference play on Saturday, Oct. 20, when it heads to Milwaukee, Wis., to face No. 5 Marquette at 2:05 p.m.
The Pirates will return home on Wednesday, Oct. 24, for the first of back-to-back games with No. 6 Georgetown. SHU concludes its regular season schedule at Georgetown on Oct. 27.
