WASHINGTON, D.C. – Despite a complete-game showing from Karissa Dupuis, the Seton Hall softball team (13-18, 3-10) fell to the Georgetown Hoyas, 2-1, at the Mount Vernon Athletic Complex in Washington, D.C. on Thursday afternoon.
How It Happened     Â
Despite the Pirates' best efforts, the team found itself trailing 2-0 after two innings in the opening game of this crucial BIG EAST tilt. The deficit arose from a two-out jam in the first inning, which led to an RBI single for the Hoyas. In the following inning, the hosts led off with a solo home run, bringing the game to the 2-0 scoreline.
Now trailing, Seton Hall's offense needed to break through against arguably the best pitching staff in the conference. Unfortunately for The Hall, they were unable to manage more than two hits and a walk in total through the first four innings. Eventually, the Pirates found a chance to equalize the game when Andrea Perez and Christina Ginex knocked two one-out singles. Unfortunately, a pair of fielders' choices ended the top of the fifth with no runs scored for The Hall.
After allowing two early runs, Karissa Dupuis settled in against the Hoyas. The junior allowed just two hits and two walks over the next three innings while The Hall searched for a response.
Eventually, The Hall found that response in the sixth inning. With two runners on and two out, Loreale Blake drove home Naya Martinez on a first-pitch single to make it a 2-1 game. After a clean bottom of the sixth, the Pirates had a chance to tie the game in the seventh after Ginex earned a leadoff walk. However, the Hoyas induced three straight groundouts on four pitches to hand Seton Hall a 2-1 loss in game one of the series.
News & Notes
The Pirates will continue their weekend road tilt against the Georgetown Hoyas beginning on Friday, April3. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.
