SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Led by an early-inning burst, the Seton Hall softball team (13-17, 3-9) downed the Stony Brook Seawolves, 4-2, at Mike Sheppard Sr. Field on Tuesday afternoon.

How It Happened
In preparation for their upcoming BIG EAST series, the Pirates avoided the early-inning woes that had plagued them against Providence. Utilizing small ball and capitalizing on a Stony Brook error, Naya Martinez and Katey Brennan helped bring two runs around to give The Hall a 2-0 lead through three innings.

All the while, in the circle, Rachael Schumann dominated the Seawolves. The sophomore hurler completed her four innings of work with three strikeouts and only two scattered hits. Back at the plate, the Pirates rewarded Schumann's outing with another two runs, one on a fielder's choice and another on a sacrifice fly, turning the proceedings into a 4-0 Seton Hall lead after four frames.

Taking over for Schumann, Sami Wakeley, entered the circle looking to close out the final three innings. Despite allowing two runs, Wakeley scattered four hits across her three innings, including a clean seventh inning, to secure a 4-2 win for the Pirates.

With the loss, the Pirates move to 13-17 on the season and 3-9 in BIG EAST play.
With two hits today, Benitez has now recorded a hit in 26 of 30 games this season.
- Benitez reached 40 hits on the season.
Figliolino recorded her second career RBI.
Martinez and Brennan each recorded an RBU.

What's Next
The Pirates will continue BIG EAST play when they travel to Washington, D.C., to begin a three-game series against the Georgetown Hoyas beginning on Thursday, April 2. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 3 p.m.
