South Orange, N.J. – Gianna Angelillo scored her fourth goal of the season on Wednesday night as Seton Hall and Marquette battled to a 1-1 draw in a crucial late season clash. With both teams eyeing a top-four seed and a berth to the BIG EAST Tournament in a few week's time, the Pirates and Golden Eagles combined for 26 total shots on the night.
How it Happened
Marquette would be the one to come out of the gates on the attack, firing four shots within the first 10 minutes of the match. The first shot on target came in the 10th minute from Emily Fix, but was easily handled by Kate Kleinsmith in net for Seton Hall.
The Pirates would settle into the game over the next several minutes, and would eventually find the back of the net in the 28th minute. After the sides jostled for possession in the midfield, Kaylin Mallon led Angelillo a pass down the far side of the field. The senior got the ball to her right foot and ripped one into the far upper corner of the goal to give the Pirates the lead.
The game stayed open to start the second half. Macie Mietz ripped a shot on target in the 49th minute, followed by a flurry of chances by Marquette in the ensuing minutes. The Golden Eagles would level the match in the 65th minute, as Clare Shea headed one home off a corner kick to make it a 1-1 game. The Pirates would get the best looks at goal late as they tried to regain the lead, the best of which came on consecutive shots from Abby Udowenko and Kylie Ray in the 74th minute. Despite the opportunities, both teams came away with a point as the BIG EAST season begins to wind down.
