Mallon Scores as Pirates Top Providence on Senior Day
10/17/2026 4:29:00 PM | Women's Soccer
South Orange, N.J. – Kaylin Mallon buried a header in the 71st minute as Seton Hall earned a much needed three points in a 1-0 victory over Providence on Saturday afternoon. The win pushes the Pirates into a three-way tie for fourth place in the BIG EAST standings.
Prior to the match, the Pirates honored five graduating seniors as part of Senior Day: Gianna, Angelillo, Brianna Azevedo, Cassidy Brown, Sabrina Campbell and Grace Lawler.
How it Happened
In a match that was truly a tale of two halves, Seton Hall capitalized when it mattered most to emerge victorious. The Friars would control the first half, outshooting the Pirates through the first 45 minutes, 9-1. Despite that, Seton Hall would have a pair of first half goals overturned after video review. In the 21st minute, what looked to be a wonderstrike from Angelillo was called back on an offside call. Just 10 minutes later, Mallon was fed a perfect pass and found the back of the net, but again the flag came up and wiped out the tally.
After halftime, Seton Hall would turn the tide, outshooting Providence in the second half, 9-5. The Pirates peppered the net early in the half, firing five shots towards frame in the first 12 minutes of the half. The Hall would finally cash in in the 71st minute, as a free kick taken by Tuva Norell moved the ball outside to Macie Meitz. Her cross into the box found the head of Mallon, who got one past Providence goalkeeper Caitlin Daley to put the Pirates ahead.
In goal, Kate Kleinsmith was stellar once again to help preserve another shutout. The sophomore made seven saves between the pipes, her fourth straight match with at least six stops. The shutout is the seventh of the season for Kleinsmith, who owns a miniscule 0.32 goals against average.
