Pirate Backline Stands Tall Again in Scoreless Draw at UConn
10/7/2026 9:07:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Storrs, Conn. – Seton Hall goalkeeper Kate Kleinsmith made eight saves and faced a UConn attack that rifled 28 total shots, but the Pirates were able to earn a point after a 0-0 draw with the Huskies.
How it Happened
The Huskies had good looks at goal all night, but the sophomore Kleinsmith continued her strong season by standing tall against all chances. Three chances came Kleinsmith's way within the first 10 minutes of action, as three shots from outside the penalty area were all easily handled by the Pirate netminder.
The Pirate defense showed its prowess in the 19th minute, as a cross through the penalty area was punched away initially by Kleinsmith. Caught off her line, a shot from UConn's Ines Nourani was headed towards goal before a clearance from Cassidy Brown off the line kept things scoreless.
The Seton Hall backline continued to hold strong through the second half, with the most threatening chance coming on a shot from Maeve Staunton in the 77th minute which Kleinsmith corralled. UConn had several late set pieces in the final 10 minutes of action, but the Pirates were able to thwart each opportunity to preserve the point.
Up Next
Seton Hall has 10 days off before its next game, which will be back at home against Providence on Saturday, Oct. 17.
