
Pirates Nearly Complete Comeback At Saint Joe's

Merion Station, Pa. — The Seton Hall baseball team used a five-run top of the ninth inning to take a lead on Saint Joseph's but the Hawks were table to tie the game in the home half before ultimately walking-off the Pirates in the 10th, 10-9, in a wild series opener on Friday afternoon.
AJ Soldra went 2-for-5 with a double and a ninth-inning home run and Kevin Milewski went 2-for-5 with two RBI for the Pirates. Relief efforts from Steven Svenson and Patrick Benn helped keep The Hall in the game by allowing just two baserunners in nearly four innings of work.
How It Happened
After a scoreless first inning, Saint Joseph's pushed three runs across in the bottom of the second inning to take the early lead. Soldra led off the top of the third with a ground rule double and he later scored on an RBI groundout from Aiden Robbins that got the Pirates on the scoreboard. The Hawks answered in the home half of the third with a run that pushed their lead back up to three, 4-1, but Magnus Krieger made it a two-run game once again with an RBI single in the top of the fourth.
Saint Joe's used a three-run bottom of the fifth inning that made it 7-2 and they kept the Seton Hall bats at bey from the fifth through the seventh innings. Svenson came up big out of the bullpen, retiring the side in order in the the sixth and seventh innings for the Pirates. Aiden Robbins led off the top of the eighth with a base hit up the middle and Jimmy Brennan followed with a single of his own. A groundout moved both runners into scoring position and Ryan Frontera drove in a Seton Hall run with an RBI groundout that scored Robbins and made it 7-3 Saint Joe's. With two outs win the inning, Brennan scored on a fielding error that allowed another Seton Hall run to score and cut its deficit to three, 7-4.
Patrick Benn came on in the eighth and recorded a shutdown inning that set the stage for a Seton Hall rally ini the ninth. With one out in the inning, Soldra hit his second home run of the season that made it 7-5. Marco Ali followed the solo bomb with a double to right center and Robbins was hit by a pitch to give The Hall runners on first second. Brennan was the next batter and he reached on a throwing error by the shortstop, also allowing Ali to score. Milewski gave the Pirates the lead with a two-run double, scoring Robbins and Aiden Dill that made it 8-7 Pirates. With two outs and Milewski on third base, Frankie Scrivanic smacked a double down the line for his first RBI of the season.
The two-run lead wouldn't be enough however as Sainit Joseph's used two runs in the bottom of the ninth to tie the score at 9-9 before walking it off in the bottom of the 10th.
