Tysons, Va. -- Despite Cole Hansen (Skillman, N.J.) pitching six innings of shutout baseball with six strikeouts, Seton Hall dropped the series to the Georgetown Hoyas, losing 1-0 in a pitcher's duel on Sunday afternoon.Â
Aiden Robbins (Yardley, Pa.) was responsible for half of Seton Hall's hits, going 2-for-4.
How It HappenedÂ
After a scoreless first inning, the Pirates had a chance to strike in the top of the second inning. Robbins doubled in his first at-bat and reached third base safely after an Andrew Bianco (Kings Park, N.Y.) flyout. With two outs, Pat D'Amico (Lynnfield, Mass.) couldn't bring Robbins home.
Georgetown had a chance in the following half inning to score. There was a runner on third base with only one out, but Hansen struck out the next two batters to end the inning unscathed. In the third inning, the Hoyas again had runners on with only one out. Hansen struck out Christian Ficca then induced a pop-up.
Both Hansen and Georgetown's Everett Catlett allowed two combined baserunners in the fourth and fifth innings. Seton Hall's next chance to get on the board came in the sixth inning. With one out, Max Viera (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) singled then reached second base safely. He advanced to third after a flyout but was stranded. Jay Allmer (Cary, N.C.) came in relief in the seventh inning where he proceeded to retire the side.
In the top of the ninth inning, Staus Pokrovsky (Pittsgrove, N.J.) led off with a single. After back-to-back groundouts, he advanced to third with Robbins up to bat. The freshman, who already had two hits in today's contest, couldn't get his third and flew out. In the bottom of the ninth, Allmer got into a jam. He loaded up the bases with three hit-by-pitches but had recorded two outs. Michael Gillen (Rochelle Park, N.J.) came in with the hopes of recording the final out. In a 2-0 count, Gillen threw a pitch low and inside that Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) couldn't block. The ball got past him, and Georgetown's Kavi Caster crossed home plate. Â
