South Orange, N.J. - Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) went 2-for-4 with two RBI but it wouldn't be enough as Villanova defeated Seton Hall, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Stadium.

Zack Sylvester (Montville, N.J.) also reached base twice in four plate appearances and Nick Ferro (Flemington, N.J.) scored a career-high two runs for the Pirates (17-16, 1-4 BIG EAST).

How It Happened

Villanova scored early and often as the Wildcats pushed across two runs in the top of the first inning and three more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. Anthony Ehly (Glenside, Pa.) came on in the top of the second to record the final out and he blanked Villanova in the third before it put two more runs on the board in the fourth with a two-run home run that extended its lead to 7-0.

Sylvester reached on the Pirates' first base hit of the game in the home half of fourth but he was left stranded. Ferri led off the bottom of the fifth with a walk and he moved to second on a base hit up the middle by Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.). With Ferri now on third base with two outs, Hack drove a single to right field that scored Ferri easily and it cut into Seton Hall's deficit.

Villanova would respond though as the Wildcats plated runs in the sixth and seventh innings that extended its lead to 9-1. Ferri reached base to lead off an inning again in the seventh when he singled to right field. Despite an RBI double by Hack that drove in Ferri again and made it a 9-2 ball game, it wouldn't be enough as the Pirates fell in the second game of the series.
