Zak Leaves The Yard as Pirates Fall To Mercer, 14-7

Macon, Ga. -- Graduate student Danny Melnick (Hamilton, N.J.) went 4-for-5 with an RBI and redshirt senior Devin Hack (Somerville, N.J.) went 3-for-4 with an RBI as the Pirates fell to Mercer, 14-7.
Senior Max Viera (Greenwood Lake, N.Y.) went 2-for-5 with an RBI and redshirt junior Cole Zak (Cleveland, Ohio) went 1-for-5 with a three run home run.
How It Happened
Mercer scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning and then tacked on three more the following inning on three hits and an error.
Mercer added one more run to their total in the fourth inning to make it a 6-0 lead and then the Pirates were able to get on the board in the fifth inning with back to back hits from Hack and freshman Aiden Robbins (Yardley, Pa.) to cut the deficit to four.
Mercer's offense did not slow down, responding with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning with a single, a bases loaded walk, and a sacrifice fly.
Melnick picked up his lone RBI of the game in the top of the sixth inning with a base hit to center field, however in the bottom of the sixth Mercer added on another three runs to make it five straight innings with scoring at least one run as they took a 12-3 lead.
In the top of the seventh inning the Pirates were able to scratch four runs across. Viera singled to left to pick up an RBI and then a big swing from Zak left the ballpark for three RBI and his second home run of the season.
Mercer was able to score a pair in the bottom of the eighth to make it a 14-7 game and the Pirates dropped to 15-12 on the season.
