SCOUTING PROVIDENCE (12-25, 4-11 BIG EAST)
- The Friars enter the weekend after dropping both of their midweek non-conference matchups to Harvard and Boston College.
- Providence sits in a four-way tie for the sixth spot in the BIG EAST standings.
- Jacque Harrington leads the Friars' offense with a .375 batting average to go along with eight home runs and 28 RBI. Tori Grifone leads the pitching staff with a 3.99 ERA.
- The series history between Seton Hall and Providence has been tightly contested, with the Pirates owning the 36-35 edge all-time. Last season, the two teams met in South Orange to open conference play, with the Friars taking two of three.
- The Pirates captured their 30th win of the season on Tuesday at Marist, reaching that mark for the first time since 2005. That season was also the last time the program won a BIG EAST title.
- The 12 BIG EAST wins this season for the Pirates are tied for the third most in a season in team history. The record for league wins in a season is 15, which came in 2005.
- After last weekend's sweep at DePaul, the Pirates clinched a spot in the BIG EAST Championship for the first time since 2015.
- The Pirates will finish with an overall record above .500 for the first time since 2006, when they finished 29-27.
- Entering this week, the Pirates ranked first among all BIG EAST teams in batting average (.301) and ERA (2.58) across all games.
- Abby Wingo had a monster doubleheader on Wednesday against Fairleigh Dickinson, going 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and six RBI.
- Wingo's 55 hits and 38 runs scored on the season are both 10 shy of breaking the single-season program records. Her .414 batting average would also be the second-highest in a season in Pirates history.
- Wingo has reached base in each of her last 28 games and is riding a 13-game hitting streak which is three shy of matching the program mark. She also had a 14-game hitting streak earlier this season. Wingo has hit safely in 27 of her last 28 games and in 34 of her last 36 games.
- Lela Allen and Kelsey Carr were each named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday. Allen batted .571 with five RBI on the week, while Carr hit .583 with a home run and nine runs batted in.
- Carr tied the single-game program record for runs batted in on Sunday at DePaul, finishing with seven RBI. She tied Danielle DeStaso's mark which was set against St. Bonaventure on Feb. 8, 2013.
- Carr has had a resurgent year in the circle, owning a 1.72 ERA through 85.2 innings of work this season. No Seton Hall pitcher has posted an ERA under 2.00 since 2005. She has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week twice this season, most recently on April 3. The honor came after the junior tossed 10 scoreless innings against St. John's as part of that series sweep.
- Carr owns a 1.48 ERA during BIG EAST games this season which ranks her second in the league.
- Shelby Smith has also posted a terrific season in the circle, compiling at 2.63 ERA in 104 innings entering the week. Her 105 strikeouts lead the staff.
- Smith picked up her 300th career strikeout on April 1 during her 10-strikeout performance. Smith became the seventh Pirate to achieve the milestone and the first since Reganne Camp in 2020.
- Smith was named BIG EAST Player of the Week on March 27 for her two-way prowess at Creighton. She went 6-for-11 (.545) with two RBI at the plate while also firing a complete game victory in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. This is Smith's second BIG EAST honor of the season, as she was named Co-Pitcher of the Week on March 6.
- Erin Howard was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on April 3 after a strong run producing weekend against St. John's. In four games, she batted a team-best .556 (5-for-9) with six RBI. In the 10 games she has started this season, she has RBI's in five of them.
- Olivia Gilbert has received consistent at-bats during her sophomore season and has made them count. Her .339 batting average and six home runs both rank second on the club, while her 32 RBI pace the team.
- After appearing in just 18 games as a freshman in 2022, Gilbert has started all 41 games at first base this season.
- Seton Hall's nine-run inning on March 15 against Manhattan was its most in one frame since a 10-run rally in the fifth inning against Army on March 6, 2020.
- The Pirates' 3-2 win over Texas Tech on March 4 was the program's second ever win against a Big 12 opponent, and first since defeating Kansas, 3-2, on Feb. 17, 2008.
- Wingo tallied her 100th career base hit on March 4 against Texas Tech.
