
Seton Hall Hosts UConn in Three-Game Set Starting Friday

South Orange, N.J. - The Seton Hall softball team has a big weekend ahead of it, hosting UConn in a three-game series at Essex County Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field, beginning with a Friday 3 p.m., first pitch. Saturday's game will start at 1 p.m., and Sunday's contest will start at 12 p.m. All three games will be streamed through FloSoftball, which requires a subscription. Seton Hall took two out of three at Georgetown last weekend Saturday's rubber game ending up being a slugfest. The Pirates rallied with five runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth and three more in the seventh to win 13-10. Taylor Hill continued her assault on BIG EAST pitchers by smacking a two-run home run and a bases clearing, three-run double. She finished the day 3-for-5 with six RBI. Lauren Caye homered and scored three times, and Ashly Colonnetta was 4-for-5 at the plate and also scored three times.

- Friday is Student Appreciation Cookout Day, and Seton Hall students in attendance can pick up FREE burgers, hot dogs, chips and cookies at the entrance to Ivy Hill Park next to the parking deck while supplies last.
- Saturday is Alumnae and Youth Day. Seton Hall softball alumnae are invited back to attend a pregame brunch, and youth softball groups will be in attendance to support the Pirates!
- Sunday is Senior Day, and the Pirates will honor their graduating seniors in a pregame ceremony.

SCOUTING UCONN
- The Huskies are at the top of the BIG EAST standings with a 15-3 record, three games ahead of second-place Villanova. Overall, UConn is 29-14.
- UConn has scored the most runs in the conference this season (233) and has stolen the most bases by a wide margin; the Huskies have 107Â stolen bases, and Butler is second with 43.
- UConn pitchers have the most strikeouts in the conference (291), the fewest walks allowed (86) and the best ERA (3.04).
- Infielder Briana Marcelino is leading the Huskies with a .372Â average, 37 runs scored, 19 extra-base hits, 32Â RBI, and she is incredibly 29-for-30Â in stolen base attempts.
- On the mound, freshman Elise Sokolsky is 16-4 with a 2.31 ERA and 131 strikeouts in 118 innings.
- Seton Hall is 17-40 all-time against Connecticut, however, the Pirates are 3-3 in the last six matchups. This is UConn's first visit to South Orange since 2013.
- Seton Hall sits in sixth place in the BIG EAST standings, three games behind DePaul and Providence for the final spot in the four-team BIG EAST Championship.
- With the Pirates' first win against Manhattan on April 2, head coach Angie Churchill picked up her 200th career NCAA victory.
- Taylor Hill has been dominant during conference play, hitting .471 with 11 doubles, three home runs, 10 runs scored and 23 RBI. In conference games only, she leads the BIG EAST in doubles and RBI and is second in average and fifth in slugging (.863).
- Hill was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week on April 18 after scalding the ball in four games, hitting .571 (8-for-14) with two home runs, four doubles, six runs scored and 13 RBI in leading Seton Hall to a non-conference win over Rutgers and a BIG EAST series win at Georgetown. Her slugging percentage for the week was 1.286, and her on-base percentage was .600.
- Hill, Janae Barracato and Shelby Smith have all been named BIG EAST Player of the Week this season, and Hill and Lauren Caye have earned Freshman of the Week honors as well.
- Smith is on a tear on the mound, pitching six consecutive complete games. On April 8 vs. DePaul, she tossed 13 innings and allowed just two runs while striking out 11. On April 14 at Georgetown, she gave up just one unearned run over seven innings. In overall stats, she is seventh in the BIG EAST in ERA (2.92), eighth in opponent batting average (.242) and sixth in strikeouts (105). In conference only stats, she is eighth in ERA (2.59) and second in strikeouts (61).
- The Pirates currently lead the BIG EAST in doubles with 65Â and are fifth in the nation in doubles per game at 1.91.
- Hill is also fifth in the nation in individual doubles per game at 0.42.
- On Feb. 20, the Pirates accounted for 30 runs, 28 hits and nine home runs in two wins over UMBC and Saint Joseph's. The 19 runs in the win over UMBC in game one set the program record for most runs in a game while the 17-run differential was the largest margin of victory in program history. The 19 hits tied a program record.
- The Pirates have scored 10-plus runs in seven games this season.
- With Wingo's home run against Monmouth on March 23, 10 different Pirates have hit a dinger this season compared to eight different Pirates who jumped the yard from a season ago.
