Pirates Downed by UConn in Game One, 6-1

Wingo's triple was one of three hits on the day for the Pirates, who slipped to 6-10 in BIG EAST play, 17-18 overall.
How It Happened
Seton Hall trailed 1-0 in the fourth inning when junior Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) drew a one-out walk. Junior Miranda Arruda (Pawcatuck, Conn.) pinch-ran for Smith, and then with two outs, Wingo stepped to the plate and hit a line drive up the middle. With the outfielders playing the gaps, the ball rolled all the way to the wall, allowing Arruda to fly around the bases and score. Wingo ended up on third base for her third triple of the season.
However, UConn responded with a fortunate two-out rally. With a runner on and two outs, centerfielder Asiah James just got a piece of a ball that went in front of the plate. James has blazing speed, and she was able to beat out the throw for an infield single. Two pitches later, Brianna Marcelino ripped the ball over the right-center fence for an opposite field, three-run home run, giving UConn the 4-1 lead.
The Huskies tacked on two more runs in the sixth. The Pirates tried to respond as junior Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) hit an opposite field double down the left field line, and freshman Taylor Hill (Little Falls, N.J.) hit a single to left. Colonnetta tried to score from second on Hill's hit, but left fielder Lexi Hastings' throw was true, and Colonnetta was tagged out, 7-2.
