South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall softball team dropped the series finale with DePaul on Sunday by a score of 4-1 at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field. Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) and Ashly Colonnetta (Cypress, Texas) led the Pirates with two hits apiece.

How it Happened

The teams traded scoreless frames through the first four with Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) picking up seven strikeouts along the way.
The Blue Demons were the first team on the board with a three-run home run to left to open the scoring. DePaul would add another run on an RBI double later in the inning to make it 4-0 in the fourth.
The Pirates would respond with a run in the fifth as Marisa Pla (San Clemente, Calif.) came around to score on a Blue Demon miscue to make it a 4-1 ballgame.

Wingo would lead off the bottom of the sixth with a triple but that would be all for the Pirates as they fell 4-1.

Notes and Numbers

Wingo now has nine multi-hit efforts on the season while her triple was her second of the year.
The two knocks for Colonnetta gives her five multi-hit games on the year.
Smith tossed all seven innings for the Pirates, racking up nine strikeouts on the afternoon just one day removed from tossing 13 innings in the series-opener.
The Blue Demons outhit the Pirates 7-4.
The Pirates moved to 14-16 on the season, 4-8 in the BIG EAST and 5-7 at home.

The Pirates will be back at it on Tuesday for a road matchup with in-state rival Rutgers.
