
Pirates to Host Monmouth for Doubleheader Wednesday

South Orange, N.J. – The Seton Hall softball team will continue its stretch of home game when they host Monmouth for a doubleheader on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. at Mike Sheppard, Sr., Stadium.

The Pirates are coming a BIG EAST series victory over Creighton last weekend taking two of three from the Bluejays. The Hall took the first two games of the series with victories of 4-3 and 7-3 on Saturday at Mike Sheppard, Sr., Field. Powered by two Shelby Smith (Friendswood, Texas) home runs, one in each game, as well as a three-RBI day from Jenna Blevins (Flat Rock, Mich.), the Pirates moved to 10-10 on the season and 3-3 in BIG EAST play.

- Lindsey Baron leads Monmouth at the plate with a .357 average and 25 hits with 10 doubles.
- In the circle, Kylie Gletow has tossed 73.1 innings over 19 appearances with a 4.87 ERA and 30 strikeouts.
- The Pirates lead the all-time series between the two programs 30-20-1. The Hall took the most recent matchup against the Hawks with a doubleheader sweep on the road in 2012.
- Following a great weekend both in the circle and at the plate, Shelby Smith was named BIG EAST Player of the Week as the Pirates took two-of-three from Creighton in a series victory. The junior went 5-for-8 (.625) at the plate with two home runs and four RBIs while also tossing 16.1 innings with 15 strikeouts, a win and a save over the three games with the Bluejays.
- Freshman Laure Caye has five home runs in 38 at-bats with a .457 OBP and .842 slugging.
- Junior Abby Wingo is second on the team in batting average at .323 and leads the team in doubles with six. Dating back to the start of the season Wingo has reached base safely in 17 of 20 games for the Pirates.
- The Pirates currently lead the BIG EAST in team batting average at .303 and doubles with 34. doubles on the season.
- On Feb. 20, the Pirates accounted for 30 runs, 28 hits and nine home runs in two wins over UMBC and Saint Joseph's. The 19 runs in the win over UMBC in game one set the program record for most runs in a game while the 17-run differential was the largest margin of victory in program history. The 19 hits tied a program record.
- The Pirates have scored 10-plus runs in five games this season.
- With a three-run homer in the win over Nevada on March 4, Hannah Alexander became the ninth different Pirates to hit a home run this season compared to eight different Pirates who jumped the yard from a season ago.
