
Gumm's Strong Outing Leads Pirates to Split

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. – The Seton Hall softball team split its second day at THE Spring Games with a victory over Sacred Heart in five innings before dropping the second game to Middle Tennessee.
GAME ONE
Seton Hall 10 – Sacred Heart 0 (5)
Kelsey Gumm (Spokane, Wash.) shut down the Pioneer offense to the tune of one hit and no runs in five innings pitched for the complete game shutout.
How it Happened
Middle Tennessee 8 – Seton Hall 2
Barracato and Allender each homer but the Pirates fall to the Blue Raiders.

The Pirates will be back in action at THE Spring Games when they play the season finale against Houston Baptist at 9 a.m.
GAME ONE
Seton Hall 10 – Sacred Heart 0 (5)
Kelsey Gumm (Spokane, Wash.) shut down the Pioneer offense to the tune of one hit and no runs in five innings pitched for the complete game shutout.
How it Happened
- The Pirates scored immediately scored on an error in the first to get the offense moving.
- In the third Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) tripled to begin the inning when Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) scored her on a sac-fly. The Pirates weren't done there however, Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) tripled in two more runs before the inning was over to boost the Pirate lead to 4.
- The Hall added on another run in the fourth on an Arteaga single.
- In the top of the fifth, the Hall exploded for five more runs to put the game in the win column for the Pirates.
- The complete game shutout was the first of Gumm's career and the first for the Pirates this season.
- The Pirates outhit the Pioneers 11-1.
- Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) was 4-for-4 on the afternoon, her most hits in a game in her career.
- The two triples were the most in a game for the Pirates since they hit two against Central Connecticut last season.
Middle Tennessee 8 – Seton Hall 2
Barracato and Allender each homer but the Pirates fall to the Blue Raiders.
How it Happened
- Middle Tennessee got the scoring going with one run in the third and another four in the fourth to build a five-run lead.
- The Pirates got on the scoreboard with an Allender home run to left center in the fourth.
- Barracato matched Allender with a solo shot of her own in the fifth to get the Blue Raider lead down to two.
- Middle Tennessee put the game away with two more runs in the sixth and another run in the seventh while holding the Pirates off the scoreboard.
- Allender's homer was her fifth of the season, a team lead.
- Barracato's solo shot was her second of the season and 11th of her career.
