Pirates Travel to South Carolina for Chanticleer Showdown

Conway, S.C. – The Seton Hall Softball team will be playing in their third tournament of the 2020 campaign when they travel down to Conway, S.C., to take part in the Ripley's Chanticleer Showdown hosted by Coastal Carolina. In four games the Pirates will take on the likes of the host, Coastal Carolina, UMBC and Iona over the span of three days from Feb. 21-Feb. 23.

LAST TIME OUT

The Pirates competed in the Golden State Softball Classic in Lake Elsinore, Calif., where they picked up a victory over San Diego. In the victory, Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) hit a three-run home run to put the Pirates ahead after they trailed by two in the seventh inning with two outs.

In five games, Pandolfo slugged .800 with three doubles and the clutch home run while driving in six runs for the Pirates. The senior was awarded a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll for her efforts.

SCOUTING – (5-3) COASTAL CAROLINA (2/21 - 2:30 p.m. & 2/22 - 11:30 a.m.)

The Chanticleers went 4-0 in the Battle at the Beach tournament, the second of four home tournaments to open up their season.
Coastal Carolina has four hitters hitting over the .400 mark with Peyton Rivas leading the squad at a .500 clip with 12 hits. In the circle, Raelee Brabham is pitching to a 0.86 ERA with 20 strikeouts in 16.1 innings.
The Pirates won the only meeting in program history with Coastal, a 9-7 victory on Feb. 19, 2016.

SCOUTING – (0-0) UMBC (2/22 - 3:15 p.m.)

The Retrievers will open up their 2020 campaign in the Chanticleer Showdown. UMBC finished 2019 with a bid to the NCAA Tournament after they won the America East title.
Sophomore Courtney Coppersmith was named an All-America Honorable Mention by Softball America last season after she won 21 games as a freshman with a 1.97 ERA and 346 strikeouts in 43 games.
The Retrievers lead the all-time series 4-2 with the last game, a Seton Hall victory 5-2, coming on March 11, 2012.

SCOUTING – (0-0) IONA (2/23 - 11 a.m.)

The Chanticleer Showdown will be Iona's first action of the 2020 season.
Last season, the Gaels went 19-27 overall and 12-8 in the MAAC. They are picked third in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll.
Seton Hall leads the all-time series 25-15, with the last meeting, a Pirate victory 5-3, coming on March 17, 2017 at home.

The Pirates will travel for the first of two tournaments in Florida when they head to Madeira Beach, Fla., to take part in the THE Spring Games from Feb. 28-March 1.
