
Pirates Head West for Golden State Classic

Lake Elsinore, Calif. – After a 2-2 split in the Elon Softball Classic, the Seton Hall softball team will head to California to take part in the Golden State Softball Classic with games taking place at the Rosetta Canyon Sports Complex in Lake Elsinore, Calif. The Hall will play five games in three days, taking on San Diego, Sacramento State, San Jose State, Loyola Marymount and Utah State.
In total, five Pirates will be making the return to their home state: Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.), Marisa Pla (San Clemente, Calif.), Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.), Ally Taylor (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Jordan Tressler (Rocklin, Calif.).
LAST TIME OUT
The Pirates split their opening series at the Elon Softball Classic with wins over host-school Elon, 17-6, and the tournament finale against Rhode Island, 7-2 (6). Freshman Abby Wingo (Portland, Ore.) led the Pirates with a .533 average and six RBIs. Wingo was awarded a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for her efforts.

The Pirates will travel to Conway, S.C., to take part in the Chanticleer Showdown beginning on Feb. 21.

- The Toreros went 2-2 at the Stacey Winsberg Memorial Tournament, picking up wins against the likes of CSU Bakersfield and Cal Poly.
- San Diego is led in the circle by senior Delaney Heller. In 3 games, Heller has a 0.98 ERA in 14.1 innings with 20 strikeouts.
- Friday's meeting with San Diego will be the first between the two in program history.
- The Hornets are coming off a 4-1 run at the NorCal Kickoff. The team finished the tournament with a 1.36 team ERA.
- Freshman Marissa Bertuccio leads Sacramento State with 13 innings pitched and seven strikeouts while senior Jensen Main has only given up one run in 11 innings pitched.
- The Pirates are 0-1-1 all-time against the Hornets with the last matchup ending in a 10-inning tie on March 7, 2017, 2-2.
- The preseason conference favorite of the Mountain West, the Spartans wrapped up a 2-2 opening weekend at the Titan Classic hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
- San Jose State was led offensively by junior Rayohna Sagapolu who picked up 5 hits to the tune of a .385 average in the tournament.
- Seton Hall is 0-2 in program history against San Jose State with the last matchup, a 6-5 loss in eight innings, coming on March 9, 2017.
- LMU opened up the 2020 season with two wins in five games, including a 4-3 victory over San Jose State.
- Junior Molly Grumbo leads the Lions with a .529 average and two homeruns at the plate so far this season.
- Saturday's meeting with LMU will be the first in program history.
- Last time out Utah State posted a 1-4 record at the Cal State Fullterton-hosted Titan Classic, including a win over Loyola Marymount, 7-4.
- The Aggies were led by freshman Mazie Macfarlane at the plate. The outfielder went 6-for-15 at the dish for a .400 batting average in the tournament.
- Seton Hall dropped its only game with Utah State in program history, a 7-4 setback on Feb. 18, 2007.
