
Pirates Split on Day One of Golden State Classic

Down by two runs in the seventh, Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) hit a three-run home run to put the Pirates ahead as Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) came in to record the final three outs in order.
How it Happened
- San Diego got on the board first with one run in the second and then another two in the third on a two-run home run to go up 3-0 after 3 full innings of play.
- Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) got the Pirate offense started with a solo home run to left, her team-leading second of the year.
- The Pirates followed up with two more runs in the third to knot things up at three. A Jaden Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.) single scored two after an error allowed the second run to come in and score.
- The Toreros would get two back in the home half of the sixth on a single to put the Pirates behind 5-3.
- After Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) and Allender were able to reach with one out in the seventh, Pandolfo put the Pirates ahead for good with a three-run blast.
- Camp then pitched a 1-2-3 seventh innings to secure the save and the win for the Pirates.
- Pandolfo's home run was the team's third of the year and the 15th of her career.
- Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.) earned the win in relief for the Pirates with 3.1 innings and two earned runs.
- Representative of the tight game, the Pirates just edged the Toreros in hits, 7-6.
Sacramento State improves to 5-1 on the season as the Pirates fall in the second game of the game.
How it Happened
- The Hornets grabbed the lead early with three runs in the top of the first inning.
- Allender responded with her second home run of the day, a solo shot, to cut the deficit to two.
- Sacramento State tacked on another run in the second before adding two more in the third to make the score 6-1.
- Pandolfo reach on an error in the third that scored Miranda Arruda (Pawcatuck, Conn.) for the Pirates' second run of the game.
- Sacramento State continued their hot start to the season with 7 runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
- Driving in two more runs was Pandolfo in the home half of the fifth to make things 13-4.
- Allender now has three home runs to lead the Pirates and five of her seven hits have gone for extra bases.
- With two more RBIs in game two, Pandolfo now has seven runs batted in to lead the team.
The Pirates will continue play in Lake Elsinore, Calif., with two more games scheduled for tomorrow at the Golden State Softball Classic. A 1 p.m. start time is set for a matchup with San Jose State followed by a 6 p.m. showdown with Loyola Marymount.
