CHICAGO - The Seton Hall softball team (12-15, 2-2 BIG EAST) rallied twice but couldn't come all the way back, falling 8-6 at DePaul (23-9, 3-1 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Cacciatore Stadium. The contest was game one of a three-game league set.

The Hall cut an early 4-0 deficit down to a run with three runs in the fourth inning, then rallied again from five down to pull within two in the final frame. Four different Pirates had multi-hit efforts in the setback while Katherine Matthys (Spring Branch, Texas) and Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) both had two RBIs.

How it Happened

The Blue Demons scored four times in the first three innings, getting single runs in the first and third along with two in the second to go up 4-0
The Hall got three back with a big top of the fourth. Jaden Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.) got the scoring started with an RBI comebacker to the circle before Matthys lifted a two-run double to make it 4-3
The score stayed at 4-3 until the bottom of the sixth, when DePaul hit back-to-back home runs to pull ahead 8-3
The Hall was not deterred and battled in the top of the seventh. Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) got a run across with an RBI double, then scored a batter later when Peck cracked a two run home run
Down two with the bases clear, The Hall was unable to cap the comeback

Notes and Numbers

Both sides notched 11 hits in the contest, with DePaul committing the game's lone error
Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas), Arteaga, Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) and Peck all had two hits for the Pirates
Arteaga's seventh inning double was her league-leading 12th of the season
The Hall has now scored 33 runs over it's last four games
The 11-hit effort for SHU came a game after it set a season-high with 16 knocks on Tuesday at Fairfield
