
Pirates Sweep Doubleheader With Saint Peter's

Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) hit a home run and knocked in three runs in game one, while Baylee Allender (Rosharon, Texas) went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in the first contest of the double-dip. In game two, Katherine Matthys (Spring Branch, Texas) and Jaden Tate (Las Vegas, Nev.) combined to go 5-for-5 with six RBIs in a run-rule victory.
Game 1 – Seton Hall 7, Saint Peter's 2
How it Happened
- Arteaga got The Hall on the board quickly, smashing a two-run home run to center field in the bottom of the first
- The Hall stretched its lead to 3-0 with an Allender sacrifice fly later in the first
- The Pirates put four more runs in the bottom of the second, getting an Arteaga sac fly, an RBI double from Peck and a two-run Allender single to take a 7-0 lead
- The Peacocks got on the board with two unearned runs in the top of the fifth
- Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) re-entered after three scoreless innings in the top of the sixth and set the Peacocks down over the final two frames to seal the win
- The Hall out-hit Saint Peter's 12-4, while SPU committed two errors against one for SHU
- Both teams left five runners on base in the contest
- The Pirates hit .455 (5-11) with runners on base and .375 (3-8) with runners in scoring position
- Allender and Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) each had two hits
- A total of 10 different Pirates notched a hit in the balanced offensive effort
- Camp fired 5.0 scoreless innings, giving up only a hit and a walk with six strikeouts
- Arteaga's home run was her fourth of the year, tied for the team-high
Game 2 – Seton Hall 8, Saint Peter's 0 (Five Innings)
How it Happened
- The Hall again jumped ahead early, taking a 1-0 lead with an RBI single from Peck in the first
- Matthys doubled the lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the second, then Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) made it 3-0 with a sacrifice fly
- In the bottom of the third, Tate delivered a bases-clearing three-run triple before another RBI double from Matthys made it 7-0
- Mo Sobel (Newbury Parks, Calif.) kept SPU off the board heading into the bottom of the fifth, when Matthys was able to punch an RBI single up the middle to enact the run-rule
- The Pirates finished with an 8-3 edge in hits, while SPU committed two errors against one for SHU
- Sobel tossed 5.0 scoreless innings for the shutout win, scattering three hits and five walks while striking out six
- Matthys finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored
- Tate also had a big game, going 2-for-2 with a triple, a stolen base, three RBIs and three runs scored
The Pirates will hop back into BIG EAST play this weekend, playing a doubleheader on Saturday against Butler beginning April 6.
