
Pirates Split On Final Day In Clearwater

Game 1 – Seton Hall 8, Chattanooga 2
How it Happened
- The Pirates took an early lead, going up 1-0 by way of a Payton Beaver (Lake Stevens, Wash.) RBI single in the top of the first
- After the Mocs scored two in the bottom of the first, The Hall answered to re-take the lead with two runs in the top of the second
- The Hall added an unearned run in the top of the fourth, with Marisa Pla (San Clemente, Calif.) singling and using her speed to come all the way around to score after a pair of errors on the play
- Up 4-2 going into the seventh, the Pirates broke the game open with four runs in the top of the frame
- Katherine Matthys (Spring Branch, Texas), Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) and Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) delivered run-scoring knocks in the crooked top of the seventh
- The Hall finished with a 14-8 edge in hits and did not commit an error, capitalizing on three miscues by the Mocs
- Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) led the way with three hits while Beaver and Matthys both had a pair of hits
- Arteaga and Head combined to knock in four of The Hall's eight runs
- The Hall notched four stolen bases and did not allow a UTC swipe
- Madison Strunk (Adkins, Texas) got the win with 6.0 solid innings in the circle, allowing two runs on seven hits with a walk and three strikeouts
Game 2 – Purdue 7, Seton Hall 0
How it Happened
- The Boilermakers took an early lead with a run in the first and two more in the second
- Up 3-0 in the top of the fourth, Purdue pushed four runs across, three unearned, to swell its lead to the eventual final margin of 7-0
- The Pirates were out-hit 8-3 in the setback and committed four errors
- Arteaga had two hits for the Pirates and Destini Peck (Riverside, Calif.) also notched a single
- With three more hits on Saturday, Arteaga pushed her season average to a team-best .400
- Head was terrific in a 3.1 inning relief outing, allowing a single hit and striking out five
The Pirates will visit Manhattan on Thursday, March 21 in midweek action before opening BIG EAST play over the weekend at home against Villanova.
