CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Seton Hall softball team opened the second half of its Spring Break trip at the USF Series on Friday. The Hall dropped a tight decision to Eastern Illinois before a five-inning setback to Florida Gulf Coast.

Game 1 – Eastern Illinois 4, Seton Hall 3

How it Happened

The Pirates jumped ahead early, getting RBI doubles from Hailey Arteaga (Upland, Calif.) and Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) to take a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the first
The pitching of Reganne Camp (Bloomington, Ill.) kept the Panthers off the board until EIU struck for four unearned runs in the top of the sixth
Pandolfo got the Pirates back within a run with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth
The Hall put the potential tying run on base with a pinch-hit double from Chrisa Head (Lewisville, Texas) in the bottom of the seventh, but couldn't bring the run home

The Hall held a 6-5 edge in hits but was felled by four errors
Pandolfo finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBIs
Camp tossed 5.0 strong innings, allowing a hit and walking four while striking out six

Game 2 – Florida Gulf Coast 8, Seton Hall 0 (Five Innings)

How it Happened

Janae Barracato (Hempstead, N.Y.) led the game off with a single, but the Pirates were unable to bring her home before seeing the Eagles take a 1-0 lead after an inning
FGCU doubled its lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the second, then broke the game open with a grand slam and solo home run to take a 7-0 advantage
The Eagles tacked on a run with an RBI groundout in the fourth to put the run-rule in effect

Notes and Numbers

Florida Gulf Coast recorded a 9-1 edge in hits and notched the game's lone error
Barracato's leadoff single was the only hit for the Pirates
The Pirates fall to 2-1 all-time against the Eagles in the first meeting since 2012
